Changelog
v1.0.0 (prima pubblicazione del replay web)
- Replay radar dei dati ATCAS di Ciampino, NADGE (informazioni parziali e/o parzialmente ricostruite, vedi "to do") Marsala, Poggio Ballone e Potenza Picena
- inseriti elementi multimedia coerentemente alla timeline (grazie stragi80.it)
In programma

Information
The project
I heard about Ustica (the accident) when I was little, from the news. I became interested in the 2000s, after reading the book "Punto Condor" and, later, the Prior order judgment. Perhaps because I was a computer scientist I was particularly passionate about the technical aspects, and in particular the radar ones, I read the different appraisals, the transcripts of the hearings, the recordings of the depositions. What I found from the beginning was the difficulty of having represented in a simple way those information that have been the subject of analysis, examination and disputes.
So I thought, more than a decade ago, to throw down a few lines of code and make a prototype, the first very rudimentary but promising. Then a second version, but the technological choice of the time was not one of the best, and therefore a lot of work was literally thrown out. And after a break of several years, due to work and daily commitments, a few months ago I resumed the project and, rewriting everything from scratch, ustica Radar Replay was born, the idea I had in mind.
The project allows to reproduce the radar data of that evening, "unifying" the different sources that have come down to us (data from the ATCAS system, air traffic control and NADGE, NATO air defense) following the results of the judicial investigation, giving an overview and making it possible to explore all the information present. The original data is not manipulated but is preserved, so it is possible (if you want) to appreciate the time misalignments existing between the sites of 1980 as well as the problems of orientation to the north that determine displacements of the plots/traces and incorrect correlations, the spatial and temporal corrections, result of the work of the Colleges of Experts or empirical analysis on the system data, can be applied during the execution, as well as a whole series of functions for which I refer to the more detailed guide.
This site aims to be a memory tool, useful to represent what we know about an event that remains a mystery to this day. Thanks to stragi80.it, without whose material the project would not have been possible

Changelog
v1.0.0 (first web replay release)
- Radar replay of ATCAS data from Ciampino, NADGE (partial and/or partially reconstructed information, see "to do") Marsala, Poggio Ballone and Potenza Picena
- Possibility of selecting between different spatial and temporal calibrations, of an expert or empirical nature (generated on the system data)
- Possibility of filtering radar sources and, for ATCAS, single extractor
- Inspection of plot information (ATCAS) and traces (ATCAS/NADGE), search for traces in the current scenario and on the entire dataset
- identification of possible side-lobe plots (for Marconi only, implementing the rules defined by the expert panels and party consultants)
- possibility of carrying out operations such as measurements or observations of particular areas (with temporary persistence of the plots)
- inserted multimedia elements coherently to the timeline (thanks stragi80.it)
Planned
- Marsala NADGE data: the data uploaded to the system come from the seized tapes, and to be precise from the first works of the Collegio Dalle Mese-Tiberio-Donali, and are those delivered by the AM. They present (a fact known and documented in the expert report) a corruption after the first two digits of the SIF code, therefore the SIF is partially available and the subsequent information in the record path is missing. For some records, thanks to tabulations in pDF format, it was possible to proceed with the reconstruction of the missing information, but this is a partial restoration. Since NATO has provided the Expert Panel with a new extraction on dBase support with all the information, I am trying to get hold of this origin.
- NADGE data of Poggio Ballone: the data are the result of the judicial seizure and the composition of different data reductions, and has a hole from 18:30:18 to 18:33:53, therefore 3 minutes and 35 seconds. The expert papers report a version with a reduced hole, the result of the composition of further data reductions, which I am trying to find.
- NADGE data of Potenza Picena: file found on the site ih870.altervista.org, it is an amateur reconstruction starting from the information present in the Prior order judgment, to which records of other sites (such as remote) have been added. It is a source of not too high reliability, on which it has not even been possible to carry out a reliable test to hypothesize a spatial calibration. The data is present but the origin is disabled by default.
- Insertion of new media of interest (in particular radio communications and telephone calls)
- Bugfixing and miscellaneous
